From Electronic Waste to Renewable Resources: Unveiling the "Turning Waste into Treasure" Journey of an Environmental Recycling Company

When we hand over old mobile phones and discarded computers to an environmental recycling company, we might have a question in our minds: Where do these electronic wastes end up? How are they processed?

Professional environmental recycling is not a simple "disassembly" or "melting" process; it is a complex industrial flow that integrates meticulous disassembly, high-tech sorting, and resource regeneration. Now, let's explore the "rebirth journey" of recycled electronic materials together.

The first stage: Precise Disassembly and Classification - "Butcher's Dissection" for Maximum Utilization

When electronic devices enter the recycling factory, the first step is not violent smashing, but orderly disassembly and classification.

1. Initial Inspection and Data Destruction:

· Perform an appearance inspection on the entire device to determine if it has the value for refurbishment and reuse. For example, refurbished laptops or mobile phones with good condition can be reintroduced to the second-hand market, which is the most efficient way to utilize resources.

· For all devices with storage components, the primary task is to completely destroy the data. The recycling company will use software that meets international standards for data erasure or physically destroy the hard drives/storage chips to ensure the user's privacy and information security are completely secure.

2. Manual Precise Disassembly:

· This is the most crucial and cannot be fully replaced by machines. Skilled workers will use professional tools to break down the devices into different modules and components:

· Screen: The LCD screen and backlight module are separated, and the rare metals (In) and neodymium (Nd) can be recycled.

· Battery: Carefully removed and handed over to a hazardous waste disposal company with specific qualifications for professional processing, extracting valuable metals such as cobalt, lithium, etc. from the battery.

· Circuit Board: The main board, memory sticks, CPUs, etc. are high-value cores, and are classified separately.

· Plastic shells/Metal frames: Stored by material (ABS, PC, aluminum, steel, etc.).

· Cables, power adapters, etc.: Classified separately.

The second stage: Deep Separation and Purification - "Turning Stone into Gold" Technological Magic

After the initial disassembly, various materials will enter the corresponding deep processing procedures.

1. Detection and Reuse of Components:

· The chips, capacitors, resistors, etc. removed from the circuit board will be tested with professional instruments. Quality second-hand components that are still functional will be re-entered into the market for equipment repair or manufacturing of low-end electronic products, significantly extending their lifespan.

2. Circuit Board Processing (The Core of the Core):

· Mechanical crushing and sorting: For circuit boards that cannot be directly reused, they will enter a high-tech crushing production line. They are crushed into fine particles and then separated through various physical methods such as magnetic separation (to separate iron), electrostatic separation (to separate metals and non-metals), and gravity separation, efficiently separating metals from non-metals (resin fibers).

· Metallurgical Refining: The separated metal-rich materials (rich in gold, silver, palladium, copper, tin, etc.) will be sent to professional refineries. Through fire or wet metallurgical processes, these precious metals and non-ferrous metals will be purified one by one to meet industrial raw material standards, and reused in electronics, jewelry, automobiles, etc.

3. Plastic Recycling:

· The recycled plastic will be cleaned, crushed, and melted into recycled plastic pellets. These pellets can be used as raw materials to manufacture park benches, trash cans, non-food contact plastic products, etc. Some high-end brands have even begun to use recycled plastic to manufacture new electronic product casings.

4. Glass and Other Materials Processing:

· Screen glass: After special treatment, it can be used to manufacture tiles, reflective materials, etc.

· Cables: The plastic outer layer is separated from the inner copper/aluminum core by a stripping machine, and both are recycled separately.

Third stage: Harmless treatment - Bearing the ultimate responsibility for environmental protection

Electronic materials contain a large amount of harmful substances, such as lead, mercury, cadmium, brominated flame retardants, etc. Professional recycling companies will never allow these substances to pollute the environment.

· During the crushing, sorting and smelting processes, advanced dust removal and exhaust gas purification systems will be equipped to capture and treat harmful gases and dust.

· The wastewater generated during the process will be strictly purified to ensure compliance before discharge or recycling.

· The final unusable residues will be treated as hazardous waste or general industrial solid waste and sent to designated safe landfill sites to prevent pollution to the soil and groundwater.
